COLTS POCKET '49, ITS EVOLUTION INCLUDING THE BABY DRAGOON & WELLS FARGO
ADDENDUM |
|
| The author's curse has struck early. Upon receipt of our book I decided to proof read it one more time, even though this had already done many times by several persons. Consequently, I found some minor errors and oversights that should have caught earlier. I apologize for my sins and offer the following corrections: | |
1. |
Page 22. The caption under the photo refers the reader to Item 27, this Item is on page 34. |
2. |
Page 30. Right column top paragraph last sentence should read: "Type 4 is the only one that exists for all Pocket '49s." This same correction is needed for the caption on this page. |
3. |
Pages 48 and 51. I claim to give 15 reasons, in Chapter 12 FAKES, to explain why some Rammered Baby Dragoons are fake. Actually I only give 10 reasons. |
4. |
Page 50. On the first paragraph, lines 7 and 8, the correct measurement is .375 |
5. |
Page 86. Fig 124 has a large IRON trigger guard. Brass ones weren't seen this early. |
6. |
Page 98. The last completed sentence on the page should read, "Serial number 205979 was produced in 1861, probably shortly before the Civil War which started in April 1861." |
7. |
Page 113. "Other" grip material estimate in the upper right corner, is too high. Well under 1000 of these were produced. |
8. |
Page 134. The line immediately above Item 12 in the right column should say "Fig 112, page 77, has photos of the two different US screws." |
9. |
Page 173. On the bottom of the first paragraph, I refer the reader to Chapter Eight for English serial numbers and inspector marks. Actually they are discussed in Chapter Seven, pages 137-142. |
10. |
Page 200. On the right column, under The " ", serial number 208474 was manufactured in 1861. |
11. |
Page 233. In Fig 317 the correct date of the inscription is January 1, 1871. |
12. |
Page 281. The very last line on the page should read: 1872 to 1889 262000 to 332993 |
| It is not beyond the realm of possibility that more errors will be discovered. Please forward any that might be found to the author. At some date in the future a revised addendum or second edition may be printed. | |
Thank you, |
|
| Subsequently, the following changes have been found: | |
1. |
Pages 73,83,84. The first known serial number for a Pocket '49 with Two Line New York Address is now known to be 14454 |
2. |
Page 99. The last known serial number for a 6-shot engraved Hartford should be 205978 [item 5)]. The number quoted, 205979, is not engraved, as shown in its photo on page 101. |
